Warner Bros. will distribute MGM films internationally (with the exception of James Bond)

MGM It is a historical Hollywood studio, but for some time now it has the peculiarity of not acting as a distributor of its own films at an international level (as it happens with the other Big leagues: Disney, Warner, Universal, Sony either Supreme). It has depended, then, on an external distributor, so that when Amazon acquired the brand earlier this year it was reasonable to think that the conglomerate would take care of this, and multiple movies would go straight to transmission. In the end, this will not be the case, because after disassociating itself from Universal Pictures (its distributor during the pandemic period), MGM has partnered with Warner Bros. Picture Group to fix the mess.

It is not that Warner Bros. is going through a quiet moment, since the merger that has turned it into Warner Bros. Discovery threatens serious changes in the production and priority of its films. However, the agreement with MGM echoed by media such as Variety aims to be very profitable, and has been made possible by the recent rise of miguel de luca Y pamela abdy to CEOs of Warner Bros. Picture Group. De Luca and Abdy were previously heads of MGM, and have pulled the strings to partner with Christopher Breartoncurrent study leader. From now on, then, Warner will distribute MGM’s films in the foreign market, including hotspots like China.

In the midst of the coronavirus crisis, Universal was in charge of it, premiering licorice pizza of Paul Thomas Anderson, the gucci house of Ridley Scott (raising $100 million international) and no time to die (with 613 million: achievement clouded by the great losses that the last film of Daniel Craig like James Bond, in terms of release delay). no time to die It was, moreover, the film that triggered the bankruptcy of MGM and the favorable situation for Amazon to buy it, after Daniel Craig’s previous films had been distributed by Sony.

The first MGM film to be distributed by Warner will therefore be bones and allnew film by Luca Guadagnino with Timothee Chalamet scheduled for this November 23. As confirmed, the same will happen with Creed III the March 3, 2023: new installment of the saga Rocky according to Michael B. Jordan will go behind the scenes for the first time. The agreement does not extend to titles that had previously agreed to be distributed by Universal: this is the case of women talkingdrama directed by sarah poley who star Frances McDormand Y rooneymara, the of Untilstarring Whoopi Goldberg.

It also does not apply to the next James Bond film (tentatively titled bonus 26), because even though barbara broccoli Y Michael G Wilson are still far from having found a successor for Craig, the title had already agreed to be distributed by Universal.
