The Deliberative Council approved this Wednesday the increase in the taxi fare in La Plata, which will take effect from this Friday. Thus, the flag drop -which is currently $98- will cost $120 (22% more) and the token will rise from $8.50 to $12 (41%), every 120 meters.

Meanwhile, the night rate, which is valid between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m., will also increase: the drop will go from $105 to $132 (25.7%) and each token from $9 to $13 (44%). In this case, the average increase will be 34% taking into account both rates.

With the new rate table, depending on the number of blocks of the routes, the longest trips will have a higher increase because the rise of each tab is higher.

  • Ten blocks (for example from 7 and 50 to 7 and 40; from 7 and 50 to 50 and 17; from 7 and 50 to 7 and 60; and from 7 and 50 to 50 and 118): it went from $183 to $240 (31 .14%)

  • Twenty blocks (for example from 7 and 50 to 7 and 530; from 7 and 50 to 50 and 27; from 7 and 50 to 7 and 70; and from 7 and 50 to 50 and 128): from $268 to $360 (34, 32%).

  • Thirty blocks (for example, from 7 and 50 to 7 and 520; from 7 and 50 to 50 and 137; from 7 and 50 to 7 and 80; and from 7 and 50 to 50 and 138): from $353 to $480 (36 %).

You have to go back to May 2017 to find rates that allowed you to take a taxi at 7 and 50 and leave the Casco Urbano with only $100. Explained with other numbers and with a longer time projection, a trip of 18 blocks, for example from 7 and 50 to 7 and 32 cost $65 in May 2017 (the flag drop was $20 and each token $2.50). With this increase it will cost 336 pesos (416% more).

The new rate table was approved on tables by agreement of the two blocks and had been claimed by drivers and owners, who claim to be “living in poverty.” The request was discussed on Wednesday in the Transport Commission chaired by the Peronist Facundo Albini and obtained clearance to be considered in the fourth session.

Beyond the time required to set up the taximeter clocks, the ordinance contemplates that the rise will be in force from 0 on Friday, April 22.
