The platform of the HBO media chain It has undoubtedly positioned itself at the top of the different streaming services. Due to the quality of its own content, even prior to the existence hbo max, this was supposed to happen. Although its main strength is series, its movie content is not far behind.
Action, comedy, thriller, romance, classic or modern, this streaming service offers us a variety of high-quality titles.
In this case, we bring a great movie to enjoy this weekend. We refer to Judas and the Black Messiah. This autobiographical drama tells a particularly strong story from the late 1960s, in which a black criminal, William “Bill” O’Neal, is arrested after trying to steal a car by posing as a policeman. After being arrested, he is offered, in exchange for dropping his charges, to infiltrate the Black Panther Party movement.the organization formed by students who, among other things, advocated for the end of racial discrimination that was happening in the US.
O’Neal, played by Lakeith Stanfieldaccepts this task and gets closer and closer to the leader, Fred Hampton, (an excellent Daniel Kaluya who won an Oscar for this role). There, he will learn about the underlying actions of the organization, very far from what he had been told. Cornered by the ideologue of this plan, FBI special agent Roy Mitchell (Jesse Plemons), the man must carry out increasingly daring actions against his will, with a plan that seems to have no turning back and a terrible manipulation on the part of Mitchell.
The participation of this man was fundamental in one of the most significant events that this organization had during its troubled history, but we prefer to let those who see the film discover what they are.
This film, directed by Shaka King, has a historical coherence that made it worthy of multiple compliments, rescuing the thoroughness and precision with which the events are narrated. In addition, it has archive images that give it even more strength, although perhaps, given what was mentioned above, it would not even have been necessary for them to appear. It’s kind of an evolution of Infiltrated in the KKKlanthe movie of Spike Lee that surprised everyone in 2018, also with the theme of infiltrators although with a totally different purpose.
Judas and the Black Messiah is highly recommended to enjoy this weekend, ensuring a moment of entertainment, tension and learning that is difficult to find in other films. It is available in the HBO Max catalog.
