Their Majesties the King and Queen Felipe VI and Queen Letizia toured Pinofranqueado this Thursday, a municipality in Cáceres in the Las Hurdes region, to commemorate the centenary of King Alfonso XIII’s visit to this area and, during the visit, they took an interest for the initiatives and the hurdana life.

Thus, the King and Queen have arrived in the town at around 11:15 a.m. where they have been received by hundreds of residents and children from the municipal school who have gathered in the Plaza Reina Victoria as well as by a group of Caminomorisco schoolchildren who have offered a folkloric performance of ‘El Paleo’.

After approaching to greet and shake hands with the neighbors, they have accessed the town hall where they have met with the local Corporation and mayors of the region and then they have appeared on the balcony of the building to greet the people gathered in the street.

Subsequently, they have started a tour that has taken them through various streets of Pinofranqueado where many locals have also waited for them with ‘vivas’ to the Kings and have posed next to a commemorative plaque of this visit.

During this day, the King and Queen were accompanied by the Government spokesperson, Isabel Rodríguez, by the President of the Junta de Extremadura, Guillermo Fernández Vara, the Government delegate in the region, Yolanda García Seco, the President of the Assembly, Blanca Martín, and the president of the Diputación de Cáceres, Carlos Carlos, among other authorities.

During this walk, their majesties have held a meeting with businessmen and mayors of the region who have transferred their concerns and needs as well as the main attractions of the area.

For his part, according to sources from the Royal House, since the meeting was private, Don Felipe has stated that it is an “extraordinary experience” to move around the country, also through remote areas, and has pointed out that this visit is about to remember the centenary of the arrival of Alfonso XIII but also to “listen to the initiatives” and “future perspectives”.

Doña Letizia has been interested in the educational system of the area and has stated that they wanted to know the reality of businessmen and neighbors from Hurdano.

For his part, according to the same sources, Fernández Vara has indicated that the objective is to show the King and Queen an “authentic vision” of Las Hurdes and the transformation of the area in these 100 years that has passed “from black and white to color” .

Finally, the King and Queen walked along the Los Angeles River to the bridge where they said goodbye to the authorities present and the neighbors and ended Thursday’s visit.

It should be noted that several neighbors, consulted by Europa Press Television, have been “delighted” with the Royal visit because this gives “publicity” to the region and serves so that “the Hurdanos know where we are.” In addition, they have highlighted the closeness of their Majesties.
