Recreation and Sports organizes training workshops for directors of summer camps | Agencies

The secretary of the Department of Recreation and Sports (DRD), Ray Quiñones Vázquez, invited public and private entities that organize summer camps to participate in the orientation workshops on the Law of the Licensing Program and Supervision of Public and Private Camps and of Sports and Recreational Activities, which regulates the activities and the offers that are offered.

“Summer camps are an excellent alternative for children and young people to maximize their socialization skills through recreational and sports activities. It is essential that both directors and recreational leaders take these orientation workshops in order to be accredited and licensed, even more so in these times of pandemic,” said Quiñones.

The directors of the camps will have the opportunity to obtain the workshops virtually between four dates: March 22 and 24; April 5 and 7. Likewise, recreational leaders can select which day they will participate in person between April 9 or 10 and May 14 or 15.

The director of the Puerto Rican Institute for the Development of Sports and Recreation (Ipdder), Juan García, commented that all topics related to the offers and their respective executions will be addressed in the virtual and face-to-face workshops.

“It is recommended that directors of public or private organizations that organize camps request information on the regulations for their evaluation and study. They will also need to complete the camping license application and meet the fees. In the case of recreational leaders, to obtain their license they must take the workshops that will touch on safety aspects, recreational alternatives, discussion of regulation manuals and prevention and safety measures, “Garcia explained.
