Portugal llama a Cristiano y Guedes para Liga de Naciones

Cristiano Ronaldo and Gonçalo Guedes are part of the 26-man Portugal squad for the four Nations League games against Spain, Switzerland (2) and the Czech Republic in June, in which Ricardo Horta and David Carmo make their debut and from which João Félix was left out.

The Atlético de Madrid striker, who confirmed this week that he will not play again for the remainder of the season due to injury, is the great absentee from Fernando Santos’ list, in which there are several players from the Spanish League: Domingos Duarte (Granada ) and William Carvalho (Betis), in addition to the Valencian Guedes.

Carmo, 22, and Horta, 27, both Sporting de Braga players, are the main novelties on the list.

“Ricardo Horta was always part of a group of players that was always watched”, answered the Portugal national coach to questions from journalists during the press conference in which he announced the squad.

The coach has stressed that the selection “is an open space” in which there are always 50-60 players under observation.

In addition to João Félix, players like Anthony Lopes (Lyon), Cédric (Arsenal) and Gonçalo Inácio (Sporting) are left out of this call.

Santos has stressed that it is about four games in ten days, something that “is not very normal”, which will force, “how could it be otherwise”, to rotate during the matches.

Portugal, which won this championship in 2019, will compete in Group A2 and will debut in Seville on the first day on June 2 with Spain. On the 5th they will host Switzerland, on the 9th the Czech Republic and on the 12th they will face Switzerland again, this time in Geneva.

The winner of group A2 will qualify for the UEFA Nations League final four, to be held in June 2023.
