Boston Bats endorse Pivetta in Texas

ARLINGTON, Texas, USA — Nick Pivetta gave up one run on three hits over seven innings, his longest of the season, to win for the first time since August, as the Boston Red Sox prevailed on Friday 7- 1 over the Texas Rangers.

Boston scored four times in the sixth inning. JD Martinez started that decisive drive with a line drive single to left field, which he bounced off the feet of Brad Miller.

With that hit, Martínez extended his hitting streak to 14 games and his on-base streak to 29, which dates back to September. These are the two longest active streaks of their kind in the Major Leagues.

Pivetta (1-4) snapped a seven-game losing streak that spanned his last 13 starts. He had not won since August 13, 2021, when he beat Baltimore.

He prescribed four strikeouts and walked one. His shutout attempt ended in the seventh inning, when Kole Calhoun tripled to center field and scored on a wild pitch.

The Red Sox have won two of three games after a string of five losses, their worst streak of the season, sinking to last place in the American League East.

Dane Dunning (1-2) gave up one run on two singles into the sixth inning. He ended up leaving with two outs, after allowing five runs and six hits, with six strikeouts, two walks and a wild pitch.

For the Red Sox, Puerto Ricans Kiké Hernández 2-1 with a run scored, Christian Vázquez 4-1 with an RBI. The Dominicans Rafael Devers 5-1 with a run scored and an RBI, Franchy Cordero 4-1 with a run scored and an RBI. Mexican Alex Verdugo 3-1 with one scored and one produced.

For the Rangers, the Cubans Adolis García 4-0, Andy Ibáñez 3-0.
