BMW M4 CSL, 1000 exclusive, light and perfect units

We knew that it was about to be announced but it was not until a few minutes ago that BMW presented us with the new BMW M4 CSL as part of its 50th anniversary celebration.

As we already told you, this will not be the only model to be revealed these days, but it will be one of the most striking.

BMW M GmbH presents a special edition based on its successful high-performance models for the mid-size premium segment. According to the brand, the new BMW M4 CSL combines old-school racing passion with cutting-edge technology to create an inimitable performance experience and limited to only 1000 units worldwide.

Its character is based on two fundamental characteristics: a power increase of 30 kW/40 CV with respect to the BMW M4 Competition Coupé to now have 405 kW/550 hp and a weight reduction of 100 kilograms.

This is achieved thanks to a lightweight design, its two-seater configuration, model-specific chassis improvements and equipment features selected especially for the mission for which it has been developed.

In the tests carried out in the circuit of Nurburgring Nordschleifethe BMW M4 CSL achieved the fastest lap times ever set by a BMW Group series-produced car. In the version of the circuit that has always been used to compare it with other models -which is 20.6 kilometers long and does not include the T13 section straight- he stopped the clock at 7 min 15.677 s.

His official and notarized lap time on the 20.832 kilometer circuit (the full lap) was 7 min 20.207 sec.

Acceleration figures are equally impressive, with 0-100km/h taking 3.7 seconds and 0-200km/h sprinting in 10.7 seconds.

The racing character of the BMW M4 CSL is based on a proven concept that harnesses cutting-edge development experience and the latest technologies to shape a fascinating end result. “CSL” stands for “Competition, Sport, Lightweight“(Competition, Sportiness, Lightness), referring to the important role that lightness in design plays in achieving success in motorsport.

Racing car know-how has enabled BMW M GmbH to limit the mass in running order (MOM) of this special edition to 1,625 kilograms. An outstanding power-to-weight ratio of 2.95 kilograms per hp (4.01 kg/kW) is postulated as the perfect base for an incredible dynamic driving experience. The installation of the M carbon fiber bucket seats reduced weight by around 24 kilograms compared to the standard seats fitted to the BMW M4 Competition Coupé. 21 kilograms were saved by eliminating the rear seats and seat belts, integrating a partition and making corresponding modifications to the boot.

As for the chassis modificationsSome elements such as the extra light carbon-ceramic brakes, the special light alloy wheels or the springs and suspension struts reduced the figure by another 21 kilograms. The reduction in soundproofing and the use of ultra-light acoustic insulation have saved a further 15 kg, while the use of components made from carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) has resulted in a reduction of 11 kg. In addition to its carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) roof, the bonnet and boot lid of the BMW M4 CSL are also made of this lightweight, high-tech material, as is its center console. A titanium rear silencer reduces the weight of the exhaust system by more than four kilos.

The body of the BMW M4 CSL is painted as standard in the exclusive color Frozen Brooklyn Gray metallic. This exterior hue combines with exposed carbon fiber surfaces and red accents to create an expressive look of sporty purity. Alternatively, customers can configure their new M4 CSL in Alpin White or Black Sapphire metallic. The carbon fiber structure of some body components is visible in several areas, including the two chiseled air intakes on the hood.

The bmw laser headlightsoptionally available, they add another detail to the front end of the new BMW M4 CSL. Both in the welcome effect when opening the doors and when turning on the dipped and main beam lights, the headlights light up yellow instead of being white, which is reminiscent of the look of the successful cars that compete in the GT category. The LED taillights of the new BMW M4 CSL are fitted as standard with technology that makes its debut on a road car for the first time. Its glass covers feature intricately interwoven threads of light that are illuminated using laser technology.

The engine of the BMW M4 CSL develops a maximum torque of 650 Nm between 2,750 and 5,950 rpm. Its 405 kW/550 hp of maximum power is achieved at 6,250 rpm. The design of the 3.0-litre engine derived directly from competition has been conceived to work at high revolutions and develop maximum power. The torque produced by the engine is transferred to the rear wheels of the new BMW M4 CSL via a Eight-speed M Steptronic gearbox with Drivelogic.

The function of standard M traction control with model track-specific tuning allows the driver to set assist limits to limit wheel slip. On dry surfaces, levels 1 to 5 of the M traction control allow the driver to perform controlled drifts. Levels 6 to 10 are based on the system developed especially for touring car drivers. Also included as standard are the M light-alloy wheels in an exclusive cross-spoke design (19-inch at the front and 20-inch at the rear).

The standard equipment also includes the system M professional unitincorporating the M Drift Analyzer and M Laptimer, as well as the M mode button, which activates ROAD, SPORT and TRACK modes. The BMW Live Cockpit Professional, also standard, is made up of a fully digital display cluster, with an instrument cluster with a 12.3-inch display behind the steering wheel and a 10.25-inch central information display.
