ANDhe president of the Spanish Olympic Committee (COE), Alexander Whitehas set May 20 as the “deadline” deadline to reach an agreement on a joint candidacy of Catalonia and Aragon for the 2030 Winter Games.
Blanco is “convinced” that it can be closed and has added that sees “unthinkable” that the Barcelona brand does not appear in the name of that project.
This has been assured in statements to the media before participating in the Cercle d’Economia conference, in the Catalan capital, where this afternoon he is part of a round table on the moment in Barcelona together with the city’s first deputy mayor, James Collboni; the president of the port, Damian Calvetand the general manager of Emirates Team New Zealand, Grant Dalton.
It is a very important project and I believe that in the end, no matter how many difficulties there may be along the way, we will find the definitive solution. And we also have to find her in a short period of time
Alluding to the talks to close an agreement for a joint bid between Catalonia and Aragon for the 2030 Winter Games, Blanco has been “convinced” that “In the end, a meeting point will be reached, because it cannot be otherwise”.
“It is a very important project and I believe that in the end, no matter how many difficulties there are along the way, we will find the definitive solution. And we also have to find it in a short period of time,” he warned.
In that sense, Blanco has recalled that it is already “at the limit of the term”: “We cannot go past May 20 without having things definitively finished”, he has asserted, since he has pointed out that in a year the host of the Games will be decided and, in that time, the candidacy agreement must be closed and it must be technically preparedhand in hand with the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
What you have to try is to find the point where everyone is happy, everyone is comfortable and everyone understands that it is good for the territory and for absolutely everyone.
White has admitted that “something that was agreed has been a little out of date”referring to the agreement signed between the Olympic Committee, the Government and the Generalitat de Catalunya, and of which Aragón has stood out in protest at the distribution of seats agreed.
“What you have to try”, he added, “is to find the point where everyone is happy, everyone is comfortable and where everyone understands that it is good for the territory and for absolutely everyone” .
According to the top leader of the COE, at the moment they are closing where the tests will be heldfor which he has asked the parties to understand that, if they do not agree, “there is no project”.
The Barcelona brand
Asked about the fact that the Generalitat, on the other hand, considers the agreement for the distribution of seats closed, Blanco has made it clear that he “does not contradict” the Catalan government in any case: “We are talking and, when we talk, we talk about everything. that’s a negotiation. There will be positions of each one in one sense, but I hope that a definitive agreement will be reached.”
And as to whether he thinks that the Barcelona brand should appear in the name of the candidacy, he replied that it is something that all the parties must decide, but he has pointed out his opinion on the matter: “If you ask me personally, it would be unthinkable that Barcelona is not in the name”.
“If we have something or what this starts with, it is because of the strength of Barcelona. But it does not mean that the name is only that of Barcelona -he clarified-. We are going to let the parties sit down and, from that joint thought, come up with the definitive solution”.
